Community Initiatives
We’re working with youth charities and community organisations across each of our locations in Queenstown, Taupō and Auckland.
The GSD Project
When New Zealand’s borders closed in April 2020, Bungy co-founder Henry van Asch knew it would be some time before international visitors returned.
Something needed to be done – and quickly – to keep Queenstown’s tourism industry workers in the area, and close to the industry. That’s when the GSD – or Get Stuff Done – project, was born.
Spearheaded by Henry and his team at Bungy, hundreds of former tourism industry workers have since been deployed into new and existing community projects including the Southern Lakes Sanctuary, Tucker Beach reserve restoration project and the Routeburn Dart Wildlife Trust.
One year on and Bungy is delivering workforces across all areas of these and other projects – from health and safety to admin, accounting to on the ground workers.

Wakatipu School Branches Camp
Every year, Year 10 Wakatipu High School students head into the backcountry, for the iconic Branches camp. Here they learn new outdoor skills – such as search and rescue, first aid, camping, hiking, and kayaking. With a focus on building resilience and fostering growth, Branches has become a special rite of passage for Queenstown youth. Bungy has supported this initiative since 2016.
Whakatipu Youth Trust
The Whakatipu Youth Trust has been ticking all our social purpose boxes since forever. Working with local youth to build resilience and confidence, the trust offers a youth drop-in centre, programmes and opportunities – like our Bungy jumps - for youth aged 10-24.
Blue Light
Blue Light (in partnership with Police) has been delivering life-changing outdoor programmes to New Zealand youth for more than 30 years. We’re stoked to be offering up our own empowering experiences to these young people.
Youthtown
Youthtown are a nationally operated, not-for-profit organisation focused on empowering the young people of Aotearoa New Zealand to be the best they can be. Youthtown Taupō runs a number of extremely valuable programmes for our Taupō community’s rangitahi, that promote growth through building resilience, wellbeing, mindfulness and gaining self-confidence - all essential skills for life that AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand are proud to support.
Community Support
Every year, we give hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of our experiences to community organisations.
